All American Radio

I remember main street
The way you’d sing along
To the radio in my cherokee
Knew the words to every song
Now girls can’t play guitar
Said the guitar shop brigade
They couldn’t tell you nothin
You’d prove em wrong someday
You believe in me, as much as I believe in you
We just need ourselves a bigger place, sing a bigger tune
To the Superhit sound
All American Radio
You sounded on the mic little like
Everybody’s hero
I could be the DJ
Playing your favorite song
Baby You and me got radio dreams
Now everybody sing along
The amplifier choir
Soaking up the sound
Seemed liked people already knew ya
Before you even moved to town
I fell into this cue light, I faded to this groove
But it’s a radio tower and the satellite power
Makes the whole world groove around
To the Superhit sound
All American Radio
You sounded on the mic little like
Everybody’s hero
I could be the DJ
Playing your favorite song
Baby You and me got radio dreams
Now everybody sing along
Feels like you’re on the road forever
Three hundred days a year
Twenty four seven without you here
You earned your shot, now give it all you got
I’ll just be spinning here, spinning here, spinning here
Year after year year after year

Trouble Like Me

Tell me are you
Trouble like me
Let’s start a little trouble and see
I am a law unto me
One that you never should break
There’s so much more we could be
I give as good as I take
Tell me are you
Trouble like me
Let’s start a little trouble and see
I gave my heart to the rain
And when it falls I’m complete
My feet are free to explain
As I walk away
Your love could never compete

Holdin on Tight
Evett/Jubilee © 2019
Drove my Indian through the Cumberland Gap
Late at night and I never looked back
Took my pride and joy to her brand new life
So keep on holdin tight
She was a fastball quicker than a zippo flame
A Georgia girl with an L.A. name
She fixed motorbikes when they broke their chains
At a brokedown dealership everyday
She was a harley girl I was an Indian guy
I fell in love when she blinked those eyes
I said fly away with me tonight
And keep on holdin tight
She looked at me then around the room
Said her sketchy boss was due back soon
They’d come for me for the things I seen
Drugs and guns and deals between
I said hey little girl let’s run and hide
Pack you things and go on a moonlight drive
We’ll make Tennessee by the morning light
Keep on holdin tight
Ride Away with me
I am as real as real can be
There’s a full moon tonight
So keep on holdin tight
So we rode all night with the moon so big
Gave everything we had to give
It’s been twenty years since we left that night
We’re still holdin tight

Don’t Do Nothin At All
Evett/Jubilee © 2020
She was standing down the devil
Down near Shiloh Tennessee
There was no one on the highway
So she hitched a ride with me
She climbed into my truck
It was empty as could be
She closed the door and opened up
I listened carefully
She was raised around the bottle
Cannot help but hear its call
When she’s pullin back the throttle again
The devil says
Don’t do nothin at all
Don’t do nothin at all
She said I could hear ya coming
From a thousand miles away
Another man just runnin
To a better life someday
You may walk through valleys
Through the shadows of the fog
Ride without a shepherd
When your soul has lost its claws
chorus
My feet drove in the darkness
She played the radio
Her snarl turned to a whisper
Hey Mister time to go
She was raised upon the bible
Reaches for it when she falls
And when she feels a new revival again
The devil says…
Don’t do nothin at all

Fireflies in Your Soul
Evett/Jubilee © 2019
Honky Tonk Lights
Shadows lose control
This summer night
Gonna light the fireflies in your soul
Young girls fake Ids
Young men sittin in between
My heart skipped a beat
When you walked through that door
Barking dogs and far freight trains
River lights and barbecue flames
Food trucks rearrange
And I can’t wait no more
Beneath the….
Honky Tonk Lights
Shadows lose control
This summer night
Gonna light the fireflies in your soul
You walked in in a cowboy hat
Crooked smile like an alley cat
Picked you up off that mat
And swept the years away
You got me in a sweat
Straight shot of a lovers breath
Darling how I long for you
Won’t you stay with me
Bemeath these….
Honky Tonk Lights
Shadows lose control
This summer night's
Gonna light the fireflies in your soul

One More Wedding Bell
Ned Evett ©2019
Your life's in Denver
My butt’s in Tennessee
A year has come and gone with you
So far away from me
I read your letter
On this tiny little screen
We’ve both grown better
From this time spent in between
I tell myself
It won’t be long
One more wedding bell to prove me wrong
First came your best friend
Walkin down the aisle
You counted down the days
And counted up the miles
Her maid of honor
You were there for every trial
Her one and only sent a message with his smile
She’ll be alright
My love is strong
One more wedding bell to prove me wrong
She’s a believer
By his grace she climbs
Up every mountain
That I get left behind
Barefoot in Jackson
Your heart beats like a drum
Chasing down your sister’s kids
Who love it when you come
Made you a promise
That on your wedding day
I’d sit and strum this here guitar
And watch you slip away
The day will come
As your mom and dad look on
One more wedding bell to prove me wrong

Independence Rock
Evett/Jubilee ©2019
I leapt across the deepest chasm
Of every faithless heart
Chasing dreams of passion
Because I knew you from the start
When you stand for what you’ve got
You will find Independence rock
In every hometown it doesn’t matter
The ground from where you came
It all comes down just matters how
How you play the game
When you find yourself bleedin
Knocked down on the floor
It’s about how you hit the ground
And bouncing back for more

My Old Eyes
Ned Evett © 2018
My Old Eyes took awhile to see
How it looks to you
How it looks to me
It's a blur
It's so hard you see
How we move so fast
In perfect clarity
It’s a long way down so don’t look now
There’s no giving up
No giving out on me
My Old Eyes can see
My Old Eyes took a look around
For a ring of smoke
From a gun I found
Empty barrel I am looking down
Yeah the glint is gone
Threw it on the ground
It’s a long way down so don’t look now
There’s no giving up
No giving out on me
My Old Eyes can see
My Old Eyes saw you fly today
Saw the mountain man
Leading you astray
Loneliness wishing you would stay
Hope the mountain top
Leads you to your graves

King of Snakes
Evett/Jubilee © 2019
Bumped into a friend of mine
Up in Idaho
The roof above his honkytonk had come down in the snow
Propane light burning bright as he cleaned up all the mess
Shovel and a dumpster as I waited on his guests
I’ve been down dark alleys been to county jail
But when the King of Snakes walked in my friend my blood ran cold as hail
My blood ran cold as hail
Snake King said you’d better
Serve me up a beer
Because I served my country and everyone should fear
This pistol on my belt gonna stand my ground
Pour my dead man’s special now before I spit you out
I’m the King of Snakes coiled and ready friend
I’m the King of Snakes and I’m about to strike again lord, I’m about to strike again
You could hear the wind blow through the hole above the bar
Weren’t no way of tellin if he’s gonna go that far
Grabbin every skirt
Breakin every glass
Just when all hope was lost a voice cried from the back
Snakes don’t like the cold coiled and dead my friend
This here is my honkytonk it’s time for this to end
Ain’t no open carry put you in the right
Stand your ground somewhere else you
You’re in my house here tonight
And the King of Snakes lost his nerve and slithered out the door
My friend went back to work
And thought of him no more
Thought of him no more
So long king of snakes
Stolen valor nerve
So long King of Snakes
Yeah I bet you never served
I bet you never served

Marathon
Evett/Jubilee © 2019
We are sprinting us a marathon
We didn’t run this long
Just to come this far
We gonna make it by the break of dawn
When times are rough and no one cares
I remember what my mama laid bare
She said you don’t drown by falling in the lake
You drown by staying down there
If you are tired of starting over friend
Just stop giving in
Choose a new horizon
Then run into the sun again
If you want something you have never won
Don’t wait until you’re in the clear
For if you are not living your dreams
You are living your fears
